Source: Chronomaster Only: The Super-Chronograph by Nivada & Croton, by Grégoire Rossier and Anthony Marquiéĭimensions: 38.5mm diameter 13mm thickness Croton fitted the Chronomaster with the Valjoux 7733 in the early 1970s, as seen in the present example. The three o’clock register has a five-minute regatta countdown section in red – matching the seconds hand and 12 o’clock hour marker – giving the dial a nice pop of color. The example we have here has the Croton moniker on the dial combined with baton hands and white sub-dials. The Chronomaster was made in numerous case, dial, and movement variations throughout its production years. Croton had an ongoing partnership with the Swiss brand Nivada and, as a result, many Nivada watches sold in the United States were branded Croton. In need of a larger office, the company moved to a suburb of New York City, Croton-on-Hudson, in 1963. The Croton Watch Company was founded in 1878 by Jacob Horton in New York City. It was well suited for all sorts of professional usage. The Chronomaster was advertised by Croton as a jack of all trades because of its vast functionality, which included a waterproof case with a rotating bezel, a chronograph, and a tachymeter scale.
